I did not get a tattoo in order to worship either my body or an object I do so to express who I am and because I like it much the same way you might ware a certain style of clothes. Yes my tattoos are more permanent than clothes, is it a sin to be sure of who I am and what my tastes are. Or a sign of immature? I like the way they look but they are not about my beauty they are about expressing who I am. I am not a wild child, I am 44 yrs old, the mother of 3. Because I make choices you would not make I am not less Christan or even less steady in my walk or understanding.

Corinthians 8:5 -7 KJV: For though there be that are called gods, whether in heaven or in earth, (as there be gods many, and lords many,) But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him. Howbeit there is not in every man that knowledge: for some with conscience of the idol unto this hour eat it as a thing offered unto an idol; and their conscience being weak is defiled.

Do not allow my liberty to cause you to stumble, but do not limit my liberty with your prejudice. My tattoos are not idol worship. The next one maybe a snake coiled around my ankle with it's head on my heal crushed.

Your right it would be Mosaic Law. If only Moral Law is still applicable then the question would be is tattooing a moral sin. I would again lead to Corinthians 8. Since worshiping an idol would be a moral sin and Corinthians 8 talks about meat sacrificed to an idol. An expanded understanding of that scripture might be if it bothers my conscience because others do it to worship idols I should not do so. If I can do it with a clean heart then it is not a sin unless I know it will harm the growth of new Christians around me.

These are the questions I ask my self about getting a new tattoo. 1 - Am I worshiping my body by tattooing it. I would say less so than wearing make up since I understand that it makes my body less attractive to those I am around on a daily basis. 2 - Is it rebellion? That is harder to answer, but if I am doing it because I truly like it not to shock others then I would say probably not rebellion. 3 - I am harming new Christians? How often am I around a newbie? Have I been called to minister to new Christians or to youth? 4 - Am I defiling God's creation, my body? The answers I give may not be the same as what you would give.

Am I causing old, established Christans, who have lost sight of the freedom in Christ to have to dig in to scripture and their hearts? I hope so. Am I able to talk openly about who God is and the freedom from condemnation to people who may not have anyone else to tell them of Christ. We are all called to one body. I may just be the part you would rather keep covered up.

I would ask one none Christian but practical questions as well. 1 - Is it going to be in a location that can be covered by a business suit? What I do now for a living may not require that but in 10 years who knows. 2 - will I still like it when I am old an wrinkled. 3 - do I understand permanent.
