My church has been discussing changing its SS. Maybe move the worship service away from the 11 o'clock hour to 9 or 9:30. Have a time of fellowship after the morning worship and keep one adult SS class for the seniors. Then move the rest of the SS to Wednesday evening. On Sunday evenings we will have small groups in various locations where people are concentrated. Is that a trend and has it been proven to work. A couple of churches I'm familiar with has tried various ways and they have returned to the traditional SS hours, though one has it after the morning worship.

With all the tweaking that is being done with SS, is SS becoming passe?

Though the name SS is normally not used as much as it use to be, the concept is still employed in most churchs. Different names I have heard for SS include Community Study Groups, Bible Study, Discipleship Training, Pastor's Study, Fellowship Study, etc.

Trends vary upon congregations. I have heard of some church having 3 SSs and 2 church sevices on Sundays, community groups throughout the week, and Tues.-Wed. Bible studies at the church. Other churches are using seminars and multi-week studies -- see Redeemer's Classes: http://www.redeemer.com/learn/classes/class_schedule.html
