John,
I re-read the article earlier tonight and it is too preterist/historicist (the same) to have on our site. I am glad you
said something.
My temporary blindness to Woodrow's position is rather humorous. It consists of two parts:
First, I work from home, as I am too ill to get to IIIM's beautiful office. I may make it to the office once this year - to visit, not work. While I miss
the personal fellowship, IIIM has been extremely generous in understanding my illness and works with me by phone and e-mail. They are fantastic.
I remain in pretty intense pain (acute gout) at least 5 days a week and at times go as many as three weeks without any relief. I normally remain highly
medicated - at times it doesn't work. When you receive short posts from me it probably means my fingers (joints) hurt to type - thus my brief replies.
Tonight it is only my feet and knees - so no walking and very little sleep. However, I have somewhat learned how to work around these disabilities to get work
done at IIIM and rotate the meds so I can normally make it to church on Sundays (normally one day a week when I am
about 95%).
When I do work while in pain or medicated (or both like tonight) I normally write it down to review it later. Needless to say, I normally do not do my best
work during this time, but at least can get something done and keep my mind off the circumstances. But, I like to recheck the work …. However, if it does not
get written down to re-read, re-edit, etc. there can be a whoops!
As long as I can stay focused it works out well. However at times I get my attention going one direction …. which brings us to:
Second, I had a pastor approach me 3-4 months ago to begin teaching him the Reformed faith - he is dispy/Arminan. I attend his church (5 minutes away) so I can
critique his sermons. We meet weekly in my home and I have been teaching him … While he has made some strides in the Reformed faith - 5 points - the dispy part
of his faith has him in severe bondage. In addition, he is surrounded by a bunch of Ryrie folks. Thus, I have looking for and feeding him anti-dispy material
by the truck load. Around 7 years worth - laughing.
This is how the article by Woodrow came about. This driving desire to assist this pastor combined with some inhibiting pain and medication and not re-reviewing
the article when I was feeling a little better made for a poor decision I believe on my part. But, I learned.
