Posts: 272 12/17/03 17:42:10 Banned User	I read LOTR twice -- once in high school and once in college -- and just kept wishing Tolkein would Get On With It and tell the story without having to describe every blasted blade of grass in Middle Earth. I tend to agree with you here, but I read one author who thinks the landscape is integral to Tolkien's plot at (you guessed it) the NY Times' special LOTR section, where they also have book reviews by no less a literati than W.H. Auden, a former student of professor Tolkien.

Usually I rush through novel to find out What Happened and How it Ended, but with LOTR, I just savoured every paragraph - sometimes only reading three or four paragraphs in one sitting.
