I think the practical effect of that would be to remove from the decision-making process all spouses and children since pretty much every spouse and/or child will get life insurance, inherit property, or be free to remarry. So, the question then is who would be left to make the decision? Second cousins twice removed?
I also don't see how letting Terri die frees him to remarry any better than simply filing for divorce. If that were his motivation, why didn't he simply file for divorce and leave her parents to take care of her?
