I told this to my brother and sister in law and they thought it was a good illustration. I took it from something I remember C.S. Lewis writing about, I think it was his book Mere Christianity, but I cant remember. It basically came from an idea he had and I sort of adapted it and ran with it. There are things I like and don't like about it, anyway, here it goes.
Imagine if all the roaches in the world, or even just in your house, rebelled against you. Rebelled? Well, let's say they started getting into everything and spreading diseases everywhere, along with eating all your food. Not only that, but also they would bite you at night. Ouch! All in all, they were being quite nasty. Of course, you being a human being and being so above them in every way, feel perfectly comfortable smashing and killing them. It is your right and it is just for you to do so. Afterall, these are disease carrying roaches. They deserve to die. But, because you love these roaches so much, you decide to try and change them. Rather then spraying Raid on them, you decide to help them do what good they can do. However, in this world, the only way to save these roaches, is to become a roach yourself. This way you can talk to them and tell them how to change. Could you imagine ever giving up all the wonderful things about being a human being to become a roach?
Well, maybe in this imperfect analogy, we can understand what it must have been like for God to become a man.
P.S. This story was also inspired after a killed a roach with a shoe in my kitchen...j/k :)
